Well, if it's an old iPod that hasn't been used for a while it might just have a dead battery. If that's the case you can just install a [http://www.ifixit.com/iPod-Parts/iPod-Mini-Replacement-Battery/IF196-016|new battery]. This happened with my iPod 3rd Gen when I left it in the garage for awhile. Just installed a new battery and it works fine. Otherwise, we probably need more information to try and diagnose the problem you are having.
