I had the exact same model (dv9000) and had the exact same problem as in, the unit would power on however no display was visible in the LCD. After A LOT of troubleshooting that involved taking the unit apart, I found that the inverter board in the LCD needed to be replaced. I bought an inverter board compatible with my model on eBay for about $10.00.

Took the LCD apart and replaced the inverter board. Put it back together, turned the unit on and PRESTO!! LCD lit up like a champ!
