Hi,
Try using the earphones with the microphone attachment when making or receiving a call and listen if the audio is normal.
If it is also faint and scratchy then there is a problem with the voice reception circuitry in the phone.
If it is normal then you either have a faulty receiver of a faulty receiver connection in the phone.
If you determine that the receiver is the problem, here is a link to a video which shows how to dis-assemble the phone so as to gain access to the receiver. The dismantling of the phone is not for the fainthearted. The receiver can be seen being removed between 10:46 - 11:05 minutes into the video.

If you find that doing the repair may be too daunting for you, I recommend that you contact 3 reputable, professional mobile phone repair services and ask for a quote for the repair. I suggest 3 as that way if all 3 quotes are close in their estimates, you'll have a true idea of the real cost of the repair. You already know the cost of the replacement part, (don't forget shipping costs in the cost of the part). Also, they should give a warranty on their repair, even if it is only 30 days and if they damage the phone etc they are responsible.
Hopefully this is of some help.
