Some things to check and try.
 
Can you view the menu screens OK?
 
If so, check the ''Display Off'' setting in the Power Saving menu to see what its’ value is. (see p.129 in the User manual - link below)
 
On p.50 in the manual it states:
 
''Screen deactivation when you attempt to shoot indicates that shooting is not possible until the flash has finished recharging. Shooting can resume as soon as the flash is ready, so either press the shutter button all the way down and wait, or release it and press it again.''
 
Since you have charged the camera, it could be that the flash unit (or flash unit charging circuit) is faulty.
 
Try ''deactivating the flash'' and check if that enables the screen. If it does, it points to a problem with the flash unit/flash unit charge circuit. (see p.60 in the user manual)

Hi,
