My Mazda Tribute just had the same problem, it has internal sensors in the door latch. One door handle felt a bit loose, it would open the door and the lock would hold when the door closed but the handle still felt loose, so I checked this one first. On removing the inner door panel I could see a part not fully returning, so sprayed some WD40 on this and wriggled it till it it returned fully every time, taking the looseness out of the handle and fixing the light problem.
