When you say “I can connect an external USB keyboard and with the external display the desktop displays as it should with full keyboard function” is the laptop LCD screen disconnected at this stage?
Just wondering if the problem occurs with the LCD screen connected and because it is a touchscreen, whether this is interfering with the touchpad functions. Don’t know why the keyboard would have a problem but that may be related with the buttons on the trackpad perhaps. I guess that since you have to replace the display anyway, once a new display is connected you’ll know the answer
Here’s the [http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c05527167|maintenance and service guide] for the laptop, taken from this [https://support.hp.com/gb-en/product/hp-envy-15m-bp100-x360-convertible-pc/16851048/model/18021540/manuals|webpage].

This details how to remove all the major components and what their part numbers are. If you search online using the appropriate part number for your particular model, you will get results for suppliers of the part. Usually with LCD panels the part number can be found on the back of the panel somewhere, if you wish top verify that you’re ordering the correct one.
