Without the gas proof outer case you do put your self at higher risk of a lithium fire and/or off gassing. To add to it this is the surface which needs to be secured to the uppercase as you don't want the battery to be sliding around.

To be safe I would get a replacement battery ASAP! [product|IF117-048-5]
