I think there might just be a common connection. I would start with replacing the brake light switch. As you mentioned in your other question, your brake lights do not come on when depressed. If your brake light switch is malfunctioning, your brake lights will not work,nor will your gear shift locking mechanism. Check the wiring on the switch, makes sure it is adjusted right, and you can check it with a multimeter.Replace the switch, re-evaluate and let us know. Hope this helps, good luck."
