My PS4 could no longer read any Blu-ray discs, which includes all games! Started looking at local PS4 repair shops and most wanted around $100 to repairs disc read errors. Eventually started researching replacing the drive myself and decided to go for it.
The repair went very smoothly. I did have to disassemble my PS4 twice, once to identify which drive I had and a second time to replace it. It was very easy to swap out the drive and it only cost me $45 with taxes and S&H.
Just remember to look at the drive and figure out which one you have first, BDP-010, BDP-020 or BDP-025. You can usually tell just by taking the main cover off. Also remember that the daughterboard on your current drive is paired to the motherboard and needs to be transferred to the new drive. This should be obvious as the new drive does not come with a daughterboard.
