How to disassemble and "REPLACE THE FAN" in a HP Pavilion dv7 laptop computer.

Mein Problem

The cooling fan stopped working.

I used this video to replace the fan, clean the fan vents and redo the Thermal Compound.

Meine Reparatur

This project is not for the "fainthearted " home computer repairman!

The worst part was prying the keyboard off the surface of the computer. It did not push out from the opening where the CD drive was removed as shown in the video. I had to flex the surface plate and get a pry tool in between to remove it. There was no mention of the wire attached to the silver bar between the base and screen.

Pulling the computer board out of the case where the "large fan vent", & USB jacks +, was difficult.

The picture shows the old fan on the right of the new one.

After everything the project is a BIG success!!!

Mein Rat

A major contribution to my success was using a small plastic tray with a lot of small compartments

to place all the screws in. As I removed them. I numbered them and made a written list of order of removal and where they came from!

An after thought of the project is: I should have cut out the filters in the case at the fan vents!

Why are filters there? All they do is collect dust, stopping the flow of air from the fan.

I guess it's an aesthetic thing or, is HP worried about my health and all the dust the fan would put in the room while I am operating the computer!!!
