Adventures in iPhone 4 Home Button

Mein Problem

Ever since I bought my iPhone 4, I noticed the home button was hard to press or so it would seem when it refuses to respond. Over time as I continued the normal use of my iPhone, the home button which most of us who've had an iPhone relies on became more and more unresponsive, sometimes to the point where it didn't do anything at all. When I googled about the problem, I found out that this was a common problem with some iPhone 4 models. Needless to say, I've tried all the YouTube tips and tricks of unsticking the home button there was. It didn't help at all, I think it got even worse. Haha

I don't remember what forum I was browsing but someone posted the iFixit link there, and that's when I saw your video here on iFixit.com. So I ordered the Pro Tech Toolkit with the new home button.

Meine Reparatur

I consider my a well seasoned techie, I have modded my original XBox to repairing my XBox 360 Elite, so I am no stranger to a soldering iron, and various tools. This was my first time opening an iPhone, and taking on such an ambitious repair. I did do the repair on a Sunday Night(late), I was already tired, so it took me more than an hour. It did take me a while to see exactly how the home button fitted in but once I got it, the re-assembly went without a hitch. I was fairly confident about my work, so I put everything back together before I turned it on and tested it. It worked like a charm! I am quite pleased I did the repair myself, it was quite fulfilling. I believe my phone is still under AppleCare but I don't really care about that, it works and I didn't have to wait weeks to get my device back.

I think you should have adequate rest before you attempt this repair, it's less frustrating, and you'll be able to focus more. Don't ever doubt yourself. Some of you might have second thoughts about opening your phone but don't panic, take a step back, work a little slower, concentrate on the problem at hand. In the end, you'll be successful, your tedious work will be gratifying, just like mine was. Good luck!
