Einleitung
Vorwerk served up its pioneer and flagship multifunctional kitchen machine with 2014's Thermomix TM5. The purchase price of over $1,100 isn’t too digestible for everyone's wallet; however, the device is supposed to conjure up some delicious dishes. Loved by some, despised by others, the Thermomix should not be left out when discussing cooking gadgets.
We wondered what the machine's ingredients were—so we competently dismantled and deboned it in order to find out.

As a basis for our teardown we take...

... a Thermomix TM5 and separate the mixing bowl (including the cover) from the device.

Then we detach the recipe chip from the base unit.

Next we peel off the cover on the back with our Jimmy.

Then we remove the two screws and pull the handle out upwards.

Now we remove the program selector and motor shaft ring using the opening tool.

Once the program selector is removed, we remove the white holder so that the selector slides towards inside. In order to do that we turn it as indicated while we push backwards the clips highlighted in blue.

Now we first remove the three screws on the bottom side.

Then the six housing screws.

At last we remove the screw on the back side and then we can carefully open the housing with the opening tool.
Opening the housing ... it felt like there was still some hardware holding the top part together. I found two slots in the split line, in the area where the top handle was. A gentle twist of a screwdriver was all that was needed. Work slowly as there are two cables that have to be disconnected. See step 5.

Disconnecting the display cable is straightforward. It does not have a stopper.

Contrarily, on the main plate, a small clip must be pushed backwards while the connector is removed.

The motor ties the handholds to the front side via a mechanical hinge construction.

Several sensors register whether the cover is on the mixing bowl and whether the arms are completely closed.
That's not proper method of opening. Take pliers and counter-clockwise turn the white cap on the setting knob (there is small cutout for pliers to get grab on). Then push the setting knob inside instead of disconnecting the cables, which od very hard
Follow Dawids advice, the potentiometer can be detached from the front plate which makes it much easier for both assembly and disassembly. The black part has two snap points which prevent the white collar from turning, they need to be pried away to be able to rotate it.
You still need to disconnect the screen before prying the front off. Take the front off gently, otherwise you'll pull on the wires (they're very short).

Le probleme de verrouillage des bras vient du fait que les dents du pignon sont couchés ( pignon 9 dents diamètre extérieur de 5mm )

I have opened the housing of the motor and found the same micro motor - looks like the ones I find in Carrera slot-cars. But as Roger mentiones - there are no specs available on the web for this tiny motor. Nevertheless - I had to destroy one of the link arms to unassemble the actor unit. So I will have to wait for the new one - arriving hopefully - next week. I had the error code C142 and after disassembling the whole body part and try to move the motor by a small LiPo battery there I recognized the same “clack”-sound as I tried to start the TM5 before it got into error C142. So I assume the motor unit jammed. By manipulating it by hand I can feel a hard resistance every half turn of the rack…

Oui on peut, j'ai trouvé la pièce sur internet, mais c'est assez cher, le mécanisme de verrouillage est vendu plus de 100€.
Sinon, si vous avez l'âme d'un aventurier, il est possible de réparer la pièce en elle-même en l'ouvrant avec un cutter, en graissant le mécanisme avec le moteur puis en remontant et en ressoudant le plastique, comme montré sur cette vidéo (c'est beaucoup moins cher, mais c'est plus difficile) :

Beware : if you are encountering the C160 or C161 error, your sensors might not be faulty zas these errors are commonly due to a missconception of the locking mecanism.

Le mécanisme de verrouillage du Thermomix TM5 comporte un défaut de conception au niveau du support des bras de verrouillage (c'est la partie haute du mécanisme de verrouillage montré sur cette photo).
Les 2 vis Torx qui maintiennent les bras de verrouillage au support des bras de verrouillages sont en contact direct avec le plastique des bras de verrouillage et viennent ronger ceux-ci à forcer de les ouvrir et de les fermer (car les bras de verrouillages frottent contre le filet des vis qui maintiennent le support). Il en résulte une imprécision du mécanisme de verrouillage qui provoque les codes d'erreur C160 et C161 qui apparaissent souvent quand on fait chauffer le Thermomix.
Il semblerais qu'une version corrigée du support des bras de verrouillage existe et est trouvable sur internet.
Retour d'expérience quand je l'aurais reçue après montage, puis on verra si ça tiens dans la durée.
Retour d'expérience :
J'ai remplacé la partie supérieur du mécanisme de verrouillage du bol.
Je qualifie de "partie supérieur du mécanisme de verrouillage" les 2 pièces en plastique auxquels sont rattachés les 2 bras de verrouillage.
Ces pièces en plastiques blanches sont visible sur la photo à l'étape 6 (ci-dessus) et sont remplaçable indépendamment du reste du mécanisme. Sur la photo, ces deux pièces sont visible entre les cercles en orange.
Il existe une version corrigées de ces pièces qui n'ont pas le défaut de conception des pièces d'origine.
Pour trouver cette pièce de rechange, sur internet, recherchez : "Support des bras de levier de verrouillage couvercle Thermomix TM5" (pièce vendue par Mondial Shop)
Le défaut de conception des pièces d'origine qui constitue la partie supérieur du mécanisme de verrouillage viens du fait qu'avec une usure légère des bras de verrouillage, les capteurs de fermeture du bol censés être actionnés par ces 2 pièces ne le sont plus suffisamment.
Corrige les erreurs : C160 à C162.
Depuis cette réparation, plus aucune erreur.

Each time the mixing bowl cover is locked, a whole choreography of mechanics is triggered:

The first sensor (component of the 5-pin plug near the crankshaft) determines whether the mixing bowl is inserted at all.

Then the motor mechanically turns both arms and locks the mixing bowl cover.

Three more sensors check whether the cover is fixed and the handles are completely closed.

The next item on the menu is the control panel, which is used for most inputs.

The 4.3" (640×480 pixels) LCD TFT touch panel is inserted by simple plastic clips that can easily be detached by hand.

The board is served with two Torx screws on a ribbon cable connector. Here's what we find on it:

To get to the Thermomix fillet piece, we remove the selector knob encoder, the motor cover, and the 5-pin connector.

And out comes the juicy 500 Watt reluctance motor. It stirs at 40-500 rpm and mixes up to 10,700 rpm in turbo mode.

The accompaniment board features an NXP HEF4093B quad NAND gate with two inputs as Schmitt trigger for the engine control.
A warning on high voltage and the need to discharge the main EL cap would be good here.

The Thermomix is fed with knowledge via the lateral interface with so-called recipe chips.

The interface with the 4 pins strongly smells of a standard USB connection. This connection is also used to make the Thermomix WLAN-enabled via Cook-Key®.

Four LEDs take over the lighting at the front. They sit in pairs on an exchangeable mini circuit board.
Je confirme, les clé recettes du Thermomix TM5 sont bien des clé USB. Les clé recettes sont des clé USB miniature de facteur de forme non standard avec une mémoire de type ROM d'une capacité de 4Go.
En fait, en bidouillant un peu, j'ai même pu en extraire les données avec un PC sous linux et le programme ddrescue (attention, elle sont chiffrées donc inexploitable en l'état) simplement en branchant la puce de la clé recette sur un port USB...
Sous linux leur interface est /dev/srX.
L'interface USB de ces clé recettes est de l'USB 2.0 à en juger par la vitesse de transfert des données en lecture qui approche les 30 Mo/s, il est donc fort probable que le Thermomix TM5 ait une interface USB 2.0 "déguisée". Electriquement, les broches de l'interface USB du thermomix sont exactement les même que pour un PC.
Vorwerk semble avoir cherché à fabriquer une sorte d'interface propriétaire à pas cher en changeant juste la forme de ses clé USB…
D'ailleurs, quand on démonte une clé recette, ce que l'on trouve dedans est une clé USB aux dimensions d'une carte micro SD mais en plus épais.

La "boîte à câbles presque vide et d’allure suspecte" est en fait le compartiment de stockage du fil d'allimentation lorsque nous poussons le fil vers l'intérieur du boîtier pour entreposer ou transporter l'appareil. Rien de suspect et pas nécessairement relié à une quelconque norme.

The Thermomix is dismantled into its components. We have tasted the TM5, and here's our conclusion:

We found no
hair in the soupproprietary screws; only Torx screws were used. -
The components are all individually exchangeable, even up to the LED boards.

Housing, display, motherboard, and a few smaller parts are mostly attached via easily accessible clip connections.

Some of the cable connections are somewhat tight and therefore difficult to access. This increases the risk of damage to the cables and connectors.

Dommage que les pièces détachées ne soit pas disponible en tout cas pas à ma connaissance.

Wie man am einfachsten und ausversehen einen Thermomix schrottet: Dichtring am Messereinsatz vergessen und Flüssigkeit in den “scheinbar kompletten” Mixtopf einfüllen!
Das läuft dann schön alles ins Gerät hinein…
In unserem Fall ist es zum Glück nur Wasser gewesen und gleich aufgefallen, also sofort Stecker raus, aufgeschraubt und alles trockengelegt, danach funktionierte wieder alles wie am ersten Tag.
Da gabs diesen schönen Teardown leider noch nicht, also war Pionierarbeit gefragt. Aber war kein Problem, wie sich nun auch hier im Teardown herausstellen sollte.
Ich weiß aus erster Hand, dass einiges an Arbeit da rein geflossen ist, dass hinten in das Gitter nichts rein läuft. Daher wundert mich das sehr, dass man da offensichtlich nicht mehr dran gedacht hat. Der TM31 hatte ja hinten noch ein kleines Loch wo alles wieder raus laufen könnte.

Can the front panel be disassembled at all? I have an arm that broke inside the seal and am wondering whether it is worth trying to open it up to repair or replace that arm piece. Your pictures show the arms still connected through the front panel even after disassembly.
Seid ihr sicher, dass das Display nur 3,5” und 320x240 hat. Mir sieht es eher nach 4,3” und 640x480 aus.

ich habe versucht den TM5 zu öffnen - leider hängt noch das braune Kabel zum Drehschalter in seinem Stecker. Habt ihr einen Tipp, wie ich dieses entfernen kann? Bei meinem TM5 ist leider das Kabel extrem kurz. Liebe Grüße!
Du musst den Drehknopf vorne lösen, dann kannst du ihn einfach durchschieben und den Kabel ohne Gehäuse lösen
Bonjour, et c est qu'elle pièce qui permet de chauffer les aliments ?
C'est la plaque inférieure du pot. Celui-ci a une connexion à 5 pôles, la contrepartie est bien visible dans la première image de l’étape n°7.
Si vous prenez la casserole dans la main et dévissez la partie inférieure dans le sens inverse des aiguilles d'une montre, puis enlevez les couteaux, vous pouvez voir à quel point la plaque de base est épaisse et que la technique de chauffage doit s'y cacher.

On commence à trouver les pièces sur différents site et sur ebay, la platine de puissance va de 130€ à 229€ suivant les site. Une question de mon côté j’ai un bug lorsque je place une clé sur le support, que se soit la clé classique ou la cookkey. Le thermomix affiche un écran noir et 3 à 4 flasch apparaissent et puis plus rien. Il faut que j’enlève la clé que je débranche l’appareil pendant au moins une heure, histoire que les condensateurs se vident et après il refonctionne mais sans clé bien sur. Est-ce que cela provient de la platine ou est-ce qu’il y a une carte intermédiaire ? D’avance je vous remercie si vous avez des infos. Cordialement
La connexion de la cookkey est montée directement sur la carte mère. Vous pouvez essayer de nettoyer les contacts et de faire une réinitialisation d’usine. Si après cela votre TM5 ne lit toujours pas les clés, je vous recommande de contacter le service client de Thermomix et pour voir s'ils peuvent vous aider.
Ou peut on trouvé des pieces detacher exemple une carte mère

I can’t really see the markings on it. It is on the bottom left in the image if anyone else wants to chime in. The connector towards the bottom leads to the front cover with the closing arm mechanism.

Bei mir scheint die Chip-Schnittstelle mit den 4 goldenen Kontakten defekt zu sein, denn der Cook-Key wird nicht erkannt und gelegentlich gibts auch bei der Erkennung meiner Rezept-Chips Probleme. Lässt sich die Schnittstelle beschaffen und ist dann austauschbar ?
Hallo airmaxx, Ersatzteile gibt es offiziell nur durch eine Reparatur von Thermomix (so weit ich weiß). Hast du es schon mit Reinigen der Kontakte versucht? Manchmal sind auch die Kontakte zu sehr abgenutzt. Vielleicht hilft da ein kleiner Tupfer mit einer elektrisch leitenden Farbe (es gibt Stifte dafür im Elektro-Bastelbereich).

J’ai un thermomix TM5-1 qui indique dès la mise en fonction le défaut C150 et ensuite il s’arrête, on ne peut rien faire a partir du bouton de fonction.
J’ai donc contrôlé:
- l’état du couvercle, tout est Ok
- l’état de la collerette du bol, tout est ok
- la continuité du contact présence couvercle, tout est ok
- la continuité des 2 contacts de bras, tout est ok
Je suis un peu dépassé, est ce que quelqu’un à déjà rencontré ce problème????

Le moteur tourne à bas régime'(1 à2,5) quelques secondes et puis s’arrête le panneau indicateur affichant”veuillez nettoyer les plots sous le bol”
J’ai beau nettoyer les plots, la panne subsiste : quid ? au secours !

tuto très pratique, j’ai pu démonter, ôter le beurre fondu qui a coulé un peu partout suite à un oubli de serrage de la turbine.
J’ai nettoyé au mieux avec sopalin et cotons-tiges, j’ai mis le moteur au four à 50°C pour enlever le beurre dans les parties inaccessibles.
remontage et fonctionnement normal.

Can you please tear down the recepie chip and if possible wifi chip (Thermomix Cook-Key)? I teardown my own recepie chip and find that it uses simple USB protocol. Its the same storage microchip that is also inside many generic usb flash drives. You can literally plug that little chip to a USB type A port which I did. Windows detected as a CD drive but I couldn’t read the folder structure nor the files inside. Mac and android didn’t even recognized. I think that their wifi chip for thermomix (Thermomix Cook-Key) is also a generic wifi card which uses the same USB 2.0 protocol but I need inside photos of that wifi chip to verify . If someone has that thermomix wifi chipa dn able to dissasemble please share me the photos and help me reverse engineer this product. I think it is possible to make diy low cost recepie chips or even diy wifi chip for this product. (find me on discord zoot#9999)

Der Thermomix ist bei uns das meistgenutzte Küchenutensil - seit dem Kauf vor 3 Jahren ist er tagtäglich in der Anwendung. Erst vor zwei Monaten ging das Lager des Messers kaputt und nun war der Stellmotor der Verriegelungseinheit verklemmt - leider ließ sich dieser nicht zerstörungsfrei ausbauen und wieder gangbar machen. Meine Frau vermisst ihn bereits und kann die Lieferung der Ersatzteile kaum erwarten. Er ist und bleibt eine unglaublich praktische Küchenhilfe. Kochen/Braten können wir dennoch nach wie vor mit Töpfen und Pfannen und dem Kochfeld/Grill/Herd ;-)

Hi,
today I fixed the motor which rotate the handholds on the front side via a mechanical hinge construction, see Steps 6 and 7.
To fix the motor you have to do:
1. Unplud two wire connector on botton of the motor.
2. Remove two screws on the top of a mechanical hinge construction.
3. Rotate ich handhold to the oposit direction and tear it off. Now a mechanical hinge construction is free.
4. By use a metal wires of resistor or other element pluged in motor pins, you can try move a linear atenuator in and out (rotate a motor) by aplly DC voltage 5 to 12 V limited to 0,5 A. Change polarity to move it in out. In my case motor did not turn, so I proceeded.
5. With knife open plastic case of a linear atenuator on welded line and dissasembli it to basic parts: 2 half of case, motor and the moving rod.
6. To unplug the moving rod and half of the plastic case from a mechanical hinge construction, rorate it up.
7. Try to rotate a motor rotor cogwheel. Rotate a big plastic cogwheel and a rod on left side have to move in out.
8. Apply DC voltage 5 to 12 V limited to 0,2 A and now the motor have to start rotate hast. Change polarity to change rotating direction.
9. Whene Dc voltage is apply, hold a cogwheel and observe current. By slow rotation of cogweel for one circle current have to stay in same value. If not, a wireing of motor rotor is demaged.
10. If the motor is good you can assembly all pieces back.
11. First plug the moving rod and half of the plastic case from a mechanical hinge construction, rorate it down.
12. Place the rod with cogwheel and the motor on it positions in botton of plastic case plugged to the right side of a mechanical hinge construction.
13. Apply small amount - drops every cm of fast glue (cianocrilat) on botton of plastic case and place top part of the plastic case over and press it together for 20 minutes or more. Use elastic strips or pliers with elastic on handles.
14. After glue is cured check movements of the linear attenuator by applying DC voltage to motor pins.
