I managed to get a couple of fingerprints on the LCD.
What's the best way to clean 'em off?
What's the safest way?
I was trying to get the little triangle spacer in place to get the speakers installed. I had it in some tweezers trying to see what I was doing wearing some magnifying goggles, when the spacer shot out like a watermelon seed from between your fingers....Never got a clear view of where i went but it looked like it went sailing over into a part of the room where there is loads of little small bits+pieces in loads of other bigger boxes and containers...it sailed off into the land of the lost. I'd be lucky to happen to see the little booger during spring cleaning...I won't hold my breath. Anybody know where i can buy such a thing?
edit- I made a replacement out of some scrap plastic . Doesn't look too bad. Not sure about thickness. So I'm just gonna put everything back together and hope for the best.
I was holding the plastic triangle spacer in a pair of tweezers, and it shot out like a watermelon seed ya squeeze between your fingers!
It shot (I think) into a high-clutter area of the room and I can't find it. I made a replacement spacer out of plastic and I'll hope it works. Where am I going to buy a stupid little replacement spacer? I think I'm outta luck..
My replacement lcd came with a lot of these pieces tucked away, nice+neat, already in place along the inside edges of the 'mid-frame, silver colored section that attaches to the inside of the LCD. I was following along with the instructions, trying to be careful and not damage any of the ribbon cables or tear out a soldered connection etc. I hadn't even taken my lcd from its bubble wrap.
When I finally think to open it up and check it out. Turns out I could have stopped after taking out the speakers. My new LCD had a home button already installed. And what looks like everything in the upper section, except for the camera, was included, 'pre-installed on my LCD. Looks like I have a wide ribbon cable coming from under a speaker to get.
And at a glance, the Dock connector section looks like it might be the lastand then the dock connector looks like its the last of the bits+pieces that need 2 be moved over 2 the new phone. But I'm not sure what 2 take off first, and what's considered2 be a part of the dock.
I've read of some people having trouble after a battery replacement, because the new battery doesn't have a full charge coming from the factory and that model iPod shipped, or was 'born' with a firewire charger. And these people who were having trouble with their ipods had been using a usb charger or used the computer with its usb connection to charge.
It turns out that they should have been using a firewire charger, at least for that 1st full charge of the new battery, properly resetting every thing with whatever differs between usb and firewire output. A little hotter voltage or mAmp what ever the little difference was. One guy said his ipod had been problematic for years. Until he got his original firewire charger he had useed for years, his pod acted like it was brand new after he started charging with firewire again. He looked into why, and all he could find was others with the same situation. They had very picky ipods that didn't operate normally without a firewire charge! Mine was the same!
Hey Darie H- a quick stupid question for ya...soldering the wires to the board...the 'core' or main wires running down the center, connect to VO and the outer 'sleeve' of wires connect to GND, yes?
It's been years and I wanted to make sure my chances were better than 50/50 of Not having to smell the unique odor of burning resisters, diode etc. :-) Thanks!
"This is a difficult project. It is imperative that you read the entire guide before you proceed. Have a system in place to keep track of the screws so you know what goes where. Budget several hours for this."
That's pretty funny! You guys can tell he's being sarcastic can't you?
