My name is Samantha Aguilar, I am 21 years old and attend the University of South Florida-Tampa.
I am a third-year student and I am the first person to attend university in my family. I am majoring in Biomedical Sciences, I chose this major because I want to go to PA school, this major includes all the coursework I need to complete to apply to a PA program.
I want to become a Physician Assistant and eventually a Physician. I would like to open a free clinic in my hometown where it is heavily populated with immigrant and poverty-stricken families who do not have access to healthcare.
Over the summer of 2019 I worked with AmeriCorps in my hometown, Immokalee, FL for 10-weeks with a non-profit organization. AmeriCorps is a national service program whose main focus is to improve lives. The non-profit organization is called Benison Center which is a center of distribution of items and is partnered with World Vision. It was created in 2017 by Francisco Rincon after Immokalee was devastated by Hurricane Irma. The Benison Center distributes personal care items, diapers, baby formula, cleaning supplies, water, and when needed disaster reliefs supplies. During the summer I helped distribute these materials to my community, and I also filmed and photographed as we did this. I was even featured in a news article written about the center. Through the program I received, “The President’s Volunteer Service Award.”
I enjoy playing video games and board games with my boyfriend. I also enjoy painting and taking pictures of things I see.
I have a cat, he’s 4 years-old and his name is Eren. He is very energetic and such a sweetheart!
