I have read the posts here and clearly there are 2 main solutions to why this question is asked. Most of the people apparently didn’t realize that the cord needs to be removed from it’s latch in order to remove the wand since they are connected. The problem I had was much more difficult to solve though I did and brought pictures to share for anyone else who hasn’t been able to resolve their issue. In my case I suspected the release latch mechanism on the inside was broken and when I took it apart I found that I was correct. Use the photos to determine if this is the same model as yours. First, I removed all the screws that attached the back plate. Some screw in from the back, a couple from the front, and 2 from the bottom. This will remove the back which will remain connected by a few wires while still granting you sufficient access to the problem area.
