Solid guide, but %#*@ that looks like a royal pain in the ass. I came here because 1. Ifixit guides are usually solid, and 2. They usually have an option to purchase oem or 3rd party products that ifixit offers a warranty on.
That said, I'm with the other users that an oem replacement battery would be ideal, or at least one that ifixit stands behind. Buying a battery off of eBay, Amazon, aliexpress, etc. isn't ideal to me. I don't want to do all the work to replace an old battery with some inferior product that only lasts a few months, or worse, catches on fire. Thanks for the guide though. I'll definitely refer to it if I go the repair route.
By chance, do you happen to have a reference for a site that sells the 48 pin connectors? All I'm finding are the 50 pin connectors you state don't work. Thanks for the help!
Do yourself a favor for the stupid rubber boots that prefer to rip instead of come out of the holes. Pierce them in the center with a sharp pick, and then lift the whole thing out from the inside... they're about 1/4" deep. The rubber will kinda do the "self-healing" thing (like cutting mats) and close the hole after removing the pick.
I just disassembled an L310 last night and it was a major pain in the ***. I can't speak to the 830, but they look like similar design. To get at the battery compartment on the 310, I had to remove essentially everything, the front and back housing pieces, the screen, multiple circuit boards, the lens, the flash compartment, etc... It's like the camera was literally built around the battery compartment. The 830 looks like it's built the same way, with 100+ screws with several that will want to strip on you.
You could try using cotton swabs with vinegar on them. Distilled white vinegar will chemically eat the corrosion. Just take your time and do it slow. Don't get impatient and pour a large amount of vinegar into the battery compartment, it'll go everywhere inside the camera and ultimately cause liquid corrosion...been there done that. Best of luck with it!
Hello, You pull up on the clip. I'm doing mine right now. I also, after getting the side with the clip on it past the plastic piece with white rubber around it, had to gently, but firmly pull on the opposite side without a clip. I pulled that side towards the side with a clip and it came out, although it took a little more force than I thought it would.
Hope this helps!
