hi test your car in a safe place turn the steering wheel to the right lock it hard and do a couple of rotations while listening for a grinding sound if you hear a grinding sound your cv joint is gone , now do the opposite and turn your steering to the left lock it hard and repeat the same procedure . where the shaft goes into the transmission on the drivers side there should be no leak of fluid if it is leaking you will see it on the ground. it sounds from what you describe on the passengers side where the grease is being thrown out that the cv rubber boot is torn thats where the grease is coming from once its splits, bits of road grit get inside and destroy the bearing if thats the case you will have to replace that side. to check the outer wheel bearing jack the car up (put jack stands under the car do not rely on the jack for safety) when the car is off the ground grab the wheel at the twelve and six oclock position and rock it back and forth if its loose this will tell you if there is play in the wheel...
