Once an iPhone is fixed by someone other then Apple, you automatically void any existing warranties from Apple. Now, Apple will most likely fix it as an out of warranty product, which will be a crazy price for the 6. My guess is that the proximity sensor flex cable is a dud and needs to be replaced. I have had a computer do this exact thing to me as well. Normally, the fix is to replace the "Upper Case", which is essentially the whole keyboard and housing. I do not believe that you can switch the screens across the different models. By doing that repair, you could possibly be compromising the integrity of the water-resistance of the watch. It definitely would be interesting if it was possible. In regards to the screens being available, they shouldn't be available form iFixit for at least another month. I think it is just a faulty part. That can happen as it has happened to me before. I just replaced the screen again and it fixed the problem.

It is not necessarily mandatory for you to back up iPhones before repairs, but it is highly recommended.
