Garmin nüvi 3590 LMT Troubleshooting
I can't link my smart phone
You're not sure how to get the two to talk to each other.
note: all the menu icon locations describe their appearance when the device is oriented horizontally. Some of the icons move when holding the GPS vertically, so for ease of instruction, hold the device with the long side down (horizontally).
Follow the Phone Setup Instructions
1. From the home screen, tap the settings icon in the bottom right corner. This takes you the "All Settings" menu.
2. Next tap the Bluetooth menu icon. This will take you to the Bluetooth menu for the device.
3. Make sure the Bluetooth is enabled. In the Bluetooth menu (you're there now), the box in the top right corner (just below the question mark) should be checked with a green check mark. If not, tap it.
note: after selecting to enable Bluetooth, the screen will display a message saying "Enabling Bluetooth."
4. Now that the Bluetooth is enabled, you must set your phone to "Find Me' or "Discoverable" mode. Once your phone is looking for other Bluetooth devices, you can move on to step 5.
5. Tap "Add Phone" in the Bluetooth menu (you're still there), then hit "Ok."
6. The two devices will search for a moment, but when yours pops up, select it on the GPS and then press "Ok." The GPS will display two passkeys for the linking of the two devices: one to enter in the GPS (which usually disappears instantly and is unnecessary) and one to enter in the phone. However, for most phones it is not necessary to enter passkeys, you must simply press "Connect" or "Pair" on the phone when prompted.
note: the Bluetooth linking setup is a time-limited menu. You will have limited time to follow the necessary steps to link two devices, or the setup will fail. If this happens, simply start over from the Bluetooth menu and follow the same steps.
7. You're done! Try using some of the simple phone-enabled features on the 3590 to test the connection.
Something's Wacky
I followed the setup steps, but it still wont connect.
If you went through the proper setup, and the phone still wont link, try resetting the Bluetooth settings on both devices.
To reset the Bluetooth settings on the Garmin 3590, follow these simple steps:
1. From the home screen, tap the settings icon in the bottom right corner. This takes you the "All Settings" menu.
2. Next tap the Bluetooth menu icon. This will take you to the Bluetooth menu for the device.
3. Now press the menus icon in the top left corner of the Bluetooth menu (you're there now, then press "Restore," then "Yes."
4. Now revisit the setup steps to link your smartphone.
Not All Devices Will Work
As with many Bluetooth-compatible devices, the Garmin 3590 has a limited number of compatible devices which can be linked via Bluetooth. If no amount of menu exploring or settings resetting can link your phone to the GPS, it is likely that your phone is not compatible with the 3590.
I'm Tired of Those Annoying Sounds. How Do I Silence Them?
You want to turn on or off some of the sounds the Garmin 3590 makes (beeps, speaking, etc.)

Help! It's in the Wrong Language!

If your 3590 is in the wrong language, follow these basic steps to set the language back to English:
1. From the home screen, tap the settings icon in the bottom right corner. This takes you the "All Settings" menu.
2. Scroll down to the bottom of this menu. The second to last option (the one with the mouth speaking icon is for "Language & Keyboard." Press that one.
3. Now that you're in the "Text Language" menu, you'll want to press the "Keyboard Language" option. This is the second option from the top.
4. "American English" is the option you want, which is towards the top of the list.
My Battery is Old and Junk
The battery isn't what it used to be, and needs replacing.
This is simple! No soldering required!
(For more detailed, picture instructions, click here for battery replacement.)
1. Make sure the device is powered off by pressing and holding the power button, then pressing "Off" when prompted by the screen.
2. Carefully pop off the back cover of the device using a thin-blade flat-head screwdriver, or another similar tool. There are no screws, however there are many small clips around the edges of the cover. Further instruction and photographs are located in the disassemble instructions for the 3590.
3. Unplug the battery. It is the visible plug right next to the battery that has 3 wires: green, red, and black.
4. GENTLY pry the battery out with a larger flat-head screwdriver, or similar tool. It is stuck onto the device with a very strong adhesive, so it can be difficult to remove.
WARNING: For your safety, be extremely careful not to puncture or damage the battery.
5. Make sure you have the correct replacement battery. It is important to us the proper battery for the device, so make sure the specifications (voltage, lifespan, etc. match the one you removed (they are printed on the back of the original battery).
6. Plug in the new battery and secure it in its proper slot with the provided adhesive. I thin double-sided foam tape will work best for this.
7. Replace the cover, and test it out!
note: you may have to charge your new battery before completion.
