Outdated Hard Drive ¶

Some USB devices or cords require a newer and updated installation to be able to operate. Use this guide (Lenovo Support) check on the compatibility and/or how to fix the issue.

Faulty USB Port ¶

If none of the above work, then your laptop's usb port may be faulty. You can either replace it at a local store, or by yourself. Learn how to replace it here.

The laptop does not turn on when you press the power button.

Battery Is Not Charged ¶

Poor Processing Speed ¶

The programs load slowly and some tasks take a long time in comparison to when the laptop was first used.

Running Programs ¶

Having unused software programs can often be the reason for slow processing speeds as they take up storage space. Click on the "Uninstall a Program" option in Control Panel to see if there are any software programs that are not being used anymore. Be careful, however, because some unknown software might have come with the laptop and uninstalling it may lead to additional issues.

Opened Tabs ¶

Only keep open tabs that are necessary. Leaving unnecessary tabs open will make the processor work harder due to caches and storage. Consider saving tab URL’s to a favorites folder so you can view them anytime without having them open.

Web History ¶

Letting your browser history accumulate can often result in large caches taking up storage space. Deleting the history will delete the caches. Also consider deleting the cookies as it does the same.

Outdated Antivirus Software ¶

Newer antivirus programs have taken processing speed into effect. Check to see if your antivirus is outdated using system scanners like Malware. If updates are needed, then research which antivirus programs use the least background processing and run efficiently at the same time. Install the desired antivirus and make sure that only one antivirus is active.

Full Hard Drive ¶

Check and see if the hard drive is full. If it is running out of space, then back up the old disk and replace it with a new one. This can be done yourself or by a shop that specializes in replacements of hardwares.

Faulty Or Deteriorating Hardware ¶

Check to see if the poor processing performance is based on the hardware of the RAM or hard drive. If so, then you will need to replace the parts. This may be cheaper than purchasing a whole new laptop. Locate a hardware store near by to see if they can help or direct you to some place that can.

Overheating ¶

The bottom section of the laptop feels hot to the touch, and the laptop runs slowly.

Opened Tabs ¶

Only keep open tabs that are necessary. Leaving unnecessary tabs will make the processor work harder and generate more heat, which can cause overheating. Consider saving tab URL’s to a favorites folder so you can view them anytime without having them open.

Deteriorating Thermal Paste ¶

Thermal paste between the heat sink and the processor may be bad or missing and needs replacing. Learn how to replace the thermal paste here.

Battery Will Not Charge Or Hold A Charge ¶

The laptop battery will not charge or will be drained within minutes after unplugging the charger.

Laptop Will Not Stay Charged ¶

If the laptop dies within minutes of unplugging the power cord, then the battery no longer works and must be replaced. Learn how to replace it here.

Faulty Audio Jack ¶

If updating Windows 10 or switching back to Windows 8.1 driver did not fix the problem, then the laptop has a bad audio jack. To fix it, you will have to replace the audio jack with a new one. Learn how to replace it here.

The on-screen keyboard does not pop up in tablet mode.

Compatibility Issues With Windows 10 ¶

If you have upgraded to Windows 10 and the on-screen keyboard has stopped working, make sure you have updated to the latest version. If the problem does not go away, try resetting the laptop to factory settings.

Manual Option For Keyboard ¶

Check settings to make sure the keyboard is on automatic and not manual. To do this, press the Windows key and R, “touchscreen keyboard and handwriting panel”, double-click, and change it from Manual startup to Automatic. This should make the keyboard appear automatically when the laptop is folded over into tablet mode.

Physical Keyboard Does Not Respond ¶
