Sony Walkman NWZ-E438 Troubleshooting

Identified by model number NWZ-E438.

Walkman Screen Freezes ¶ 

"The Walkman screen is unresponsive even if audio is still playing."

Chip Malfunctioning ¶ 

Your chip may be malfunctioning. If your chip is malfunctioning, the chip could be wearing out and will not send the correct signals. You may need to reset or replace your chip.

Weather Damage ¶ 

Moisture may have gotten into your device. You will want to check the moisture strip on the inside of your device for an indication of water damage. If you do have water damage, you may need to replace your chip and battery.

Walkman Will Not Turn On ¶ 

"Walkman will not turn on even when the power button is pressed or device is plugged into charger."

Defective Charge Cable ¶ 

Your charge cable may be defective or and will not charge your battery at all. If this is the case, you will need to purchase and replace your charging cable.

Worn Down Batteries ¶ 

Your battery may be consumed. If your battery is consumed, it will not send enough power to turn your device on. You are going to want to replace your battery.

Power Button Is Malfunctioning ¶ 

Your power button may not be connecting to your device. There may be foreign substance blocking the button from reaching and making a solid connection. You will want to take your button apart and clean or replace it.

Computer Will Not Recognize Walkman ¶ 

"When plugged into the computer, device or the computer will not show any files, information or recognize each other."

File Transfer Cable ¶ 

Your cable may be damaged. If your cable is damaged, try replacing your cable. If this does not fix the problem, this could be caused by a foreign substance in the device port. Consider thoroughly cleaning or replacing the port on the device.

USB Port ¶ 

Your computer and device may not be making a connection. This could be caused by a foreign substance in the device USB port. Consider thoroughly cleaning or replacing the USB port on the device.

Screen Cracked ¶ 

"The screen on the device is cracked or showing damage on display."

Broken Screen ¶ 

If your screen is cracked, purchase new screen if you plan to fix this problem yourself. From this point, visit our guide for step-by-step instructions on how to replace your screen.

Static Noise During Audio/Video Play ¶ 

"Audio play on the device may have static background noise along with the audio or audio cut or skips during play."

Headphone Jack ¶ 

If you are experiencing static noise during audio or video play, this may be caused by either a foreign substance in the headphone jack or the wires may be shorting inside the device. Consider taking apart and cleaning inside the headphone jack or check for loose wires connecting your headphone jack inside the device.
