Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Carbon (2nd Gen) Battery Replacement

Was du brauchst

  1. Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Carbon (2nd Gen) Battery Replacement, Back Cover: Schritt 1, Bild 1 von 1
    • Using a Phillips #0 screwdriver, remove the seven 7mm screws holding the back cover onto your computer.

  2. Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Carbon (2nd Gen) Battery Replacement: Schritt 2, Bild 1 von 2 Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Carbon (2nd Gen) Battery Replacement: Schritt 2, Bild 2 von 2
    • Use a plastic opening tool or your fingers to pry off the cover.

Use the plastic tool as seen in the picture (pry at the hinge side) as on the nearside of the laptop are some plastic scoop brackets, so prying at the front will be a lost cause and may cause damage.

    • Using your fingers, disconnect the battery from the motherboard.

  4. Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Carbon (2nd Gen) Battery Replacement: Schritt 4, Bild 1 von 1
    • Using a Phillips #0 screwdriver, unscrew the five 4.3mm screws attaching the battery to the computer.

    • Remove the battery by pulling it directly towards you.

Before installing the new battery, the attached cables connecting it to the board need to be bent or kinked in a similar manner to how the old battery’s cables were. I looked at the old battery’s cables for an idea of how to bend the new cables.

Also, I saw how the old battery had some very thin foam attached to the battery (as seen in the photos), and that the replacement iFixit battery didn’t have such foam. I couldn’t figure out a way to remove the foam from the old battery without destroying it, so I went ahead and installed the new battery without it.

iFixit replacement battery is rejected by X1 Carbon gen2 chassis as not-genuine/unauthorized. Is there some additional step to getting the battery to be recognized/allowed? Something in the BIOS? Or is the battery faulty?

Hi,

Great guide. I found that my screw heads were a bit stripped and the #0 driver was too small and bounced too much. The #1 driver worked better for me. Thanks for promoting the repair revolution! - MiLo
