Remove the heatsink

It may be possible to skip this step entirely and remove the motherboard and the heatsink as one unit! If you go this route, be warned that this guide does not cover this procedure and you risk damaging your machine (but avoid having to deal with thermal paste). However, you must still remove the right fan brace (see below).
First, remove the fan brace (orange box, image 1) by removing the two Phillips screws (red circles, image one).
Second, remove the five screws (red circles, image two) that hold the heatsink in place. Note that one of the screws is under a piece of tape.
Use caution when removing the heatsink! It's thermally stuck (just grease, not adhesive) to the CPU and GPU, but it should just peel off, no problem.
IMPORTANT! If you remove the heatsink, you will need to remove and reapply thermal grease onto the CPU and GPU, as well as making sure that you do not lose any of the thermal tape that is on the other chips on the motherboard (the tape is grey and a bit sticky).
