What can I do to fix my laptop computer if it turns on and boots up, and does not go to the login screen, but goes to a black screen displaying options of how to start up, like with safe mode, or last successful start up? Dell Inspiron 1500 with Windows Vista and Intel Pentium Dual-Core

I would start with the "last successful start up" and see if it fixed things. A lot of time this is caused by programs that may have gotten installed. If that does not work , start in Safe Mode and go to the device manager. See if there is an exclamation point on any of the devices. You may have to uninstall and then reinstall. Let us know what you find
