Heater/Defroster does not work

Our 1999 Pontiac Grand AM Heater/De-Froster does not work. We replaced a single fuse (#13) but it did not fix the problem, not sure if it was the right fuse to replace. The fuse map says there are several blower fuses for AC and H/AC. Is there more than one fuse that would keep the heater from working? Thank-you

what is it that does not work? Does your fan blower work when you turn it on or does it remain off?

Jack, there are 2 fuses that you want to look at one is in the fuse box on the driver side ( Fuse N - IPC HVAC Batt) and on the passenger side fuse panel (Fuse D- HVAC Blower) If both fuses are okay, there is a pretty good chance that it is the Blower Motor Control Processor. It can stop functioning without burning the fuses. It's like a blower resistor, only smarter. Last issue could be the blower motor itself. Hope this helps, good luck.

I have seen the owners manual or fuse map been incorrect many times and have resorted to checking fuses manually to see if they are bad, to answer your question, yes there could be more than 1 fuse, or even circuit breaker, the fuse you replaced, was it burnt ? That would tell you weather it was the bad one or not, also when there is a burnt fuse that means there is a problem that should be fixed, you say your heater-ac isn't working, I assume you mean the fan-blower doesn't work, if that's the case and you are blowing the heater fan fuse then your fan motor could be seized and need to be replaced, or there is a short in your wiring causing the fuse to blow, I would find the fuse that is bad, replace it and if it burn's out immediately you know you have a bigger problem, good luck.

I got a 2000 grand am gt that did the same thing and I ran a bypass from the radiator fan to a toggle switch I hooked up near my fuse box on the driver's side which connects the battery to the hot wire (positive) on the radiator fan. As the car starts to overheat I flip on the switch and problem solved. Just remember to flip off the switch when you get to your destination or risk draining the battery too long.

@SherryBarksdale - I had the same problem in my 1999 Grand Am Se and a full overnight computer diagnostic showed the only issue was the A/C was running nonstop even when all the knobs were off, even if the heat was cued to come on. So I was losing gas mileage and had no heat. Pulled the A/C relay in the engine fuse box and heat worked like a charm.
