I lost the home button bracket when I was replacing the digitizer. I'm looking to replace it, but I just can't figure out how it's attached to the motherboard of the ipad.

Its not. It is a separate piece that gets transferred from the original to the new glass when replacing the digitizer. If you have lost the bracket, it would NORMALLY be attached to the OLD glass. It is a large black metal bracket, with 2 copper contact points.

So the copper contact points are when makes it work?
It's contacted with the new digitizer?
The copper points are for the button yes. When you align the button on your glass the copper points need to be touching the metal to allow it to create the correct connection.

I would add that the two copper points touch two prongs that are attached to the sync port. The sync port is plugged into the motherboard. So, technically, the home button operates independently of the digitizer. It is just attached to the digitizer with adhesive for functionality and aesthetics.
