I read that the ipad 2 2560 has a different internal construction. I was wondering if this meant the battery between the 2011 model and the 2012 model had changed. I do repair for my school's ipad program, and was wondering if I need to buy different battery types for different ipad models.

They left the battery alone. You will use the same battery in each version of the device.
