Western Digital My Passport Drive. USB 3.0 Portable External Hard Drive.

My passport fails initializing

My passport 1TB ran for more than a year under windows 7,8 and actually 8.1, but suddenly stopped. it loads the drivers but doesn't appear in the explorer. when I start the disk management it indicates that the second disk (my passport) must initialize. but it fails.

it appears in the device windows , just doesn't start (or initialize). I even tried the refrigerator trick, nothing

I've also tried several data recover progs, recuva , testdisk, easyus, wondershare WAC, etc, they all fail to see the external drive.

there must be a program that can go through , any ideas?

thanks, Jim

This may still be true. Try wiping the drive on a Mac and use the "write zeros" option. Used to be that if the boot blocks on an IBM went bad it was unusable with Windows but can be fixed on a Mac.

@mayer I fear that won't work on a Passport. These are custom amalgamations of a SATA and USB port. The enclosure itself is the drive. You can't even take it out and put it in another enclosure.

The only 2 possible suggestions that may work are:

a) Solder on a new USB port.

b) Find a logic board for the matching drive. Hopefully you can find one with a SATA connection.

If you can get a working SATA port, then recovering may be possible.

Hi Everyone,

this problem is because of firmware corruption of WD Hard disk drive that must be solve by Hard Repair Equipment like a PC3K ( a expensive hard repair hardware! ) but you can give your Western Digital hard disk to a HDD Data Recovery company to bring the information to you and do a hard repair for your precious Hard Disk.

i have that equipment and can do for you without any cost dear,

Hard Repair Company in IRAN

Try WD SmatWare Installer. if you can get to where it asks for Password type in 5 wrong answers it will then ask if you want to reformat say yes and you will lose all data on the drive but have the drive initialized and back working.
