What to do about cracked LCD

So I have a cracked LCD. I'm wondering if I can replace the LCD or whole screen assembly using a "for spare parts" macbook air 11" on Ebay (ie the motherboard needs replacing or it has keyboard water damage). I've replaced the motherboard in my old Macbook Pro several times so I think I'd be ok with the actual process.

If not, then I thought perhaps I can rig up an external screen and just go with that. Can I get 11" screens that can just sit in front of current one?

PS it's the price of replacing the screen that's the clincher. I live in Australia and find these things are harder to get at a reasonable price than in the US. Therefore the idea of using a screen from a broken macbook air came to mind, but I don't know if that's possible? As in, if the macbook air was fine except someone spilt water on it, damaged the motherboard etc, would the screen still be fully functional?

I've been buying from them for years without any issues. Remember that the vendors are individual under the Alibaba umbrella. Pay with Paypal and you will be safe.

If you've done one you should be able to do this.

If there are newer or additional tools suggested obtain them (every job is easier when you use the correct tools). Study the guide and notes before you begin (not just read them) and keep track of all the screws.

If you no longer need portability you could use an external monitor.

You may want to talk to these folks as they repair damaged displays: PowerBook Medic - MacBook Air display assembly or these folks OWC - Full LCD Display Assembly

In any case the Apple part is: Display Module 661-6069

You don't want to tackle the LCD replacement it's very difficult!
