Upgrade from i5 to i7 CPU

Hi,

I'm looking at purchasing a 2012 Mac Mini with an i5 processor. I have a PC at home that is not really used as I am a Mac user. The PC is pretty high spec - well it was 3 years ago. It's running an i7 processor and I was wandering if I could put it in the Mac?

Any help is appreciated.

Many thanks,

Steve

Unfortunately, Apple solders the CPU to the logic board, not allowing you to upgrade the processor. If you're still looking for a performance boost, though, you may want to consider adding in more RAM, perhaps up to 16 GB (it's a SODIMM DDR3 module, but some memory will not work; you may want to try Corsair Mac Memory), and installing an SSD.

I have the Mac Mini with I7, 16Gb RAM and 2 SSD in Raid ... works like a charm if you don’t do video editing. You can add a 2.5/5gb ethernet adapter on USB3

Why can't one unsolder the original processor and install the 7?

@penitentman - Its not that simple! Take a look at this image Logic board with Heat sink lifted Not the chips under it are BGA with out the proper gear and skills you're more likely to kill your logic board and you still need to get the BGA version of the chip which is no longer made.
