iPhone 5c display brightens in "steps" upon wakeup

I replaced the iPhone 5c display with the complete assembly, including home button and selfie camera.

Sometimes, when the device is asleep for more than a few minutes, and I wake it up, the screen brighness seems to come up in two steps: dim to normal in step which takes less than a second. However, if the phone has been on, and I either put it on sleep or it happens automatically after a few minutes, and I wake it up again, the screen brightness usually comes up to normal more gradually, but still in a second or so.

This doesn't always happen. The screen otherwise works perfectly.

I don't remember if this happened with the original screen, which I replaces because my son damaged it.

Don't know whether this is a hardware or software issue, or if it is normal, or if I should care. After I replaced this screen it's on it's second life anyway . . .

This is normal. The screen should light up gradually, but when the system stutters during wakeup, the gradual lighting up will also stutter, hardly a big deal.

I have replaced a number of iPhone 5C screens and it seems like the cheaper ones do this. It does work fine but they arent as of high quality as what OEM is, Also you will notice that they are not as bright or clear as OEM. I think this is also due to the Original screens being Retina Display and the aftermarket ones are not.

John,

Thanks for your response.

Are you saying that the iFixit part is not OEM quality?

Are you sure that the iFixit part is not a "retina" screen with the same pixel resolution as the original?

Seems to me that iFixit wouldn't get away with either.

Thanks,

Ed

I am not 100% sure on the Quality of the ones sold on ifixit. But do know (as far as i am aware) that in order to get OEM screens with Retina Display, you need to either buy a used one that has been removed from a new iPhone or get one straight from apple witch apple does not do. There are higher quality aftermarket screens out there, but as the saying goes "you get what you paid for". If the screen works fine otherwise i would just use it as it is but as far as i know this is normal in some screens that are not OEM due to alot of companys making/selling them.

John,

How do you know that you only way to get a Retina Display you must either buy used or get it from Apple? Who told you this? Thanks, Ed

Hi Ed, the reason i say getting a Retin Display screen replacement is hard. Is because Apple has a reputation to hold and they do not cut corners when assembling they're screens and only use the highest of quality parts to do so. Most aftermarket parts are made and sold by smaller companys with cheaper wholesale parts (with still good quality) but not as good as original. Aftermarket screens can be just as good as original but due to high amounts of small companys making and selling them its hard to find a really good one. Most aftermarket companys falsely say they are "OEM" or "Original" but are obviously not due to the fact that they werent made or even used by Apple. One company could make screens with good parts, another could make screens with cheaper parts, usually the screens that cost more are of better quality aposed to the ones that a cheaper.

John, respectfully, I think you are surmising things rather than really knowing them. Apple certainly doesn't manufacture the base parts. iFixit and other vendors may in fact purchase parts from the same companies as Apple. Also, if the screen I installed was not "retina" resolution, it would not work in the 5c. Thanks for the effort, however.
