Without knowing a lot... (Hint hint) the easiest way is to make a boot USB with the tools on another Mac... In the App Store on the other Mac just search for OS X (then the name of the OS like "mountain lion")

We need a lot more information. What is the model of the laptop? It should be marked underneath the display, and there should be markings on the bottom of the case: a 5-digit letter/number code, beginning with A. What operating system was on the computer when it was working?
