broken female 3.5mm jack?

Just curious if there is a way to replace/fix the 3.5mm headset jack in the xbox one controller.

Female part of the 3.5mm jack is broken! Basically with a headset plugged in directly to the 3.5mm jack if I move the headset post/plug the audio cuts out for about 15 seconds.. the audio sounds lackluster & has some white noise as well.

Any info helps, thanks!

Still looking for help.

I disassembled the controller & the small 3.5mm jack & housing is just a peice that literally sits in between the top & bottom circuit boards, it is not secured or soldered just has small circular contact points on the lower circuit board.... I took it out & nothing apeared to be damaged...

Btw..

I use a hyperx cloud 2 headset that works perfectly on any device other than the xbox one controller. I only play bf4 & forza 6.. the worst static & audio clipping is on forza 6, it produces way less/ almost no static on bf4.

I will also add that I cannot find a replacement 3.5mm jack. No one sells them & no one knows where to get one. You can find every single part for the controller, but the only part you cannot find is the 3.5mm jack

Try Amazon.com

This is a bit Lazarus, but if I've found it others might. As the other reply states, the socket just sits (loosely) on the circuit board. This allows movement which wears out the contacts on the board. I tried all sorts of things and eventually got a length of eight core cable (Ethernet cable would work) - you only need seven cores - and soldered it on to the board and the socket, extending the socket outside the controller. It's a bit Heath Robinson, but it works and saves buying a new controller. If you're going to attempt this then a couple of tips:

1). Once the socket is out of the unit, the contacts can fall out of it, particularly when soldering. I suggest some good tape to hold them in before you start.

2). Test all of the connections. The back two pairs (furthest from the socket hole) detect the presence of the plug in the socket. One pair is normally open and the other is normally closed, so don't assume that a short is a bad thing. Test the socket first to familiarise yourself with how it works with and without a plug.

3). If you're still reading and understand all this then give it a go. If not then I suggest you don't attempt it.

Show pictures? 3.5mm jacks are fairly generic so you may be able to get away with a generic part you find on ebay.

Sorry, didn't even think of posting a pic.

Here is a screen shot from a youtube video... I've put a red circle around the jack & contact points.

**I only suggest this if you're Xbox controller is not under warranty, proceeding with this fix will void your warranty on the controller**

You will need

Drill

Good half mm drill bit

Small Phillips head screw driver

A paper clip

Standard hex set

On both grips of the controller there are snap in place panels you will need to remove them. There are five keyed screws on the controller (two under each snap together panel and one under the label of the battery compartment.) Take your drill and bit then slightly drill the dot out of the the center of each keyed screw. Use your hex tool and and unscrew the screws then carefully separate the two pieces apart with the face of the controller facing down. Once separated with the face down take the first circuit board off (be careful of breaking small wires and losing the jack it's self because it's not fused to the bord) the 3.5 mm jack has pins on the bottom of it that reaches the contact points on the board. Very carefully bend those pins slightly up to make a better connection. Take the paperclip and carefully bend the pins inside of the jack (it will be visible and reachable through the top of the jack) inward towards the center of the jack. When you are finished you will have to set the jack back in its groove on the face of the controller then replace the top board and ensure all connections are tight, then continue to reassemble the controller. This should work to resolve this issue. I have successfully done this on my own controller.

terrible design by microsoft. i have 6 standard controllers and 4 of them have malfunctioning 3.5 ports right now. all are less than 12 months old and 3 of them are less than 6 months old. pathetic. moral of the story:

1) talk to microsoft, if your console is still under warranty i believe they will replace for free.

2)if not under warranty just buy a replacement or

3)try the above steps to fix it and if things go wrong and you bust it see step 2

I had the same problem. My mic was working and then it just cut out. So then I kept blowing into the six to see if there is any dust in the female aux and of that doesn’t work relink the controller then it started working just like it used to. The symptoms of the mic problem is random cutting out

I also have a problem with my female 3.5mm port. After I removed the rumble packs (I have DMD and I wanted the controller lighter weight) I reassembled my controller. Now whenever I plug in my mic it causes the game I'm playing to have quite severe reverb. Chat has no reverb whatsoever. Any assistance with this problem would be fantastic. Thanks.

P. S. I have an Xbox one elite controller.

I have yet to find a solution...

In response to what "drake" said above... the xbox one controller's headphone jack is far from generic, it is a rather rediculous design.

I also removed my rumble motors but the static crackle issue was happening before removal & didn't get any worse after removal...

I'm starting to think it's more of a firmware issue with the xbox one & it's controller. When I update the controller the audio pops, goes silent, then the static returns.

I also turned my tv off while Xbone stayed on & it made no difference.

This is a widespread issue that Microsoft continues to ignore & it's complete bull crap.

I think I may have a bad cable. My headset hasn't been reverbing recently. Thanks for the response.

To be honest if you don’t want to take a chance on breaking your controller buy a new one and don’t apply force on the jack. Right now I have the same problem just recently bought the Corsair hs50 and now probably gonna return them because there basically useless so yeah! I tried cleaning the jack and that made it worse of course because that’s how my luck is! If there’s any other solutions than the generic troubleshooting or breaking apart the controller one it would be greatly appreciated thank you!
