My console wont power on

I have everything plugged in where it should go, but there is nothing - not even a blank screen - coming up. The power light on the front left isn't lighting up either. How do I fix this?

If you are sure you're using the correct AC adapter, then there may be a myriad of problems that could have occurred. The most likely explanation is that the motherboard is fried or a component short circuited somewhere. If you're lucky, its only a cracked solder point or a broken plug for the AC adapter. If you have the expertise you can open it up and try to find the issue. If the red light isn't coming on, then its either a power issue or a switch issue with the on/off function.

I need to do the opposite. My on/off switch is stuck in the on position. The only way I turn it off is by unplugging the power source. Is there a way I can repair this?

Adding to BWest response, their one area on the SNES that is not mentioned.

On the SNES board for US, Japanese and European models. There is a small fuse solder directly to the mother board. This type of fuse is called a pico fuse, and the ones used in the SNES is rated at 1.5 amps. The fuse is located near the connector that the power switch connects too

Test for continuity on the fuse with a multi-meter or other such tool.

If the fuse is bad you can

1. look for a replacement Pico fuse, or

2. use a more conventional glass fuse ether rated at 1.5 amps.

Pico fuses are hard to find and can be expensive.

If you are using a conventional glass fuse make sure to solder a fuse holder in place instead of the actual fuse to avoid damage to the fuse and to add to ease of repair if the fuse blows out again.

What if you use something over 1.6 amps for a fuse?

What if you use a fuse over 1.5 amper? Will the snes still run or would it just be a darn black screen?

von

Definetly do not use a fuse rated over 1.5amps. If you do you will be allowing more current than the developers intended to enter the system. Obviously that could have adverse effects on componants in the system. 0.1A is a very small increase, but why take the risk

Stupid answer but before you go tearing your snes apart check the power cord. I've had a few die on me recently they are getting pretty old. One of them even still lit up the red power light but wouldnt power the system.

If the super Nintendo is a launch day sns 001 it has that lock tab if the console shell is grey keep it in case if you buy a working yellowed super Nintendo just take the top and bottom rf shielding the motherboard and the controller ports and put it all in the grey snes console shell two things to watch out for the Spring on the reset switch it tough to put back on even worse the eject button line the short end of the Spring on the eject button and the longer end goes in hole where the long bar hold the eject button in place
