display is very dim, almost pure black,
Very old issue, I found it while Googling, but I have a question.
How was it apparent from the main description that it was an issue with the inverter cable, as opposed to the inverter itself?
Background I am having a problem on a Dell notebook where the display is very dim, almost pure black, but you can very faintly discern the image. I am thinking of ordering a new inverter, but if the the problem is with the cable then a new inverter won't help (and would be a waste of money and time).
Not sure if this board has rules against necroposting, or if the original participants will see, this but thought I'll try anyway :)
Thanks.
Ist dies eine gute Frage?

Well, in my case, the clues to cable rather than inverter board were the fact that, in the early phase of the problem, I could get the screen to light by wiggling the screen into various positions. No set `position produced light but it would appear from time to time associated with a wiggle. If the inverter board had failed, there would be no light at all. As long as you can see a screen still working even though in the 'dark' then the fault is not going to be the video card. The inverter cable problem is a typical one in the 13inch MacBooks, because the hinge design is very much inferior to the macbook pro which does not suffer from this problem - another clue. Don't know anything about Dell notebooks and their hinge design and from where the backlight is fed. In a macbook the inverter is in the screen mounting and fed from the mother board by the said cable. The thin Cable connection between screen and motherboard may not be involved in the Dell design. If the backlight just cut out and never reappeared then most likely its the inverter itself.
