How do I keep my laptop running cooler?

My laptop has been getting hot to touch and occasionally will not turn on. I think this is because of dust, but I'm not too sure. How would I clean the fan in the laptop to resolve my overheating issue?

Ist dies eine gute Frage?

First you can try cleaning your fan exhaust vents, this should be done before you try and open the computer. Steps to doing this can be found here Can I used compressed air on my exhaust vents?. If this does not solve the problem then you will need to check the fan to see if either it needs to be cleaned or in the worst case scenario replaced.

In order to do this you will need to remove the keyboard. This can be done by first using a plastic opening tool to pry the long plastic strip that is above the keyboard. Next you will need to remove the four screws that hold the keyboard in place. Once the screws have been removed you will notice that the keyboard is attached by seven tabs. These tabs slide under the plastic strip at the bottom of the keyboard setting. Remove the keyboard and then disconnect the three controllers attached to the motherboard.

You will need to remove the motherboard in order to access the fan. This can be done by first removing the screw that holds the CD_ROM in place, when the screw is removed you can easily slide the CD_ROM outward. With the CD_ROM outward next remove the screws on the fan, one will be located on the top side of the fan and other two located on the top of the fan. Next you will need to remove the the screw that is holding down the motherboard, then peel back any adhesive tape that is attached to the fan or motherboard. You will now need to lift the motherboard and disconnect the 4 pin connector on the bottom side, then disconnect the 3 pin connector from the fan to the motherboard. Finally you will need to unscrew the four screws that old the CPU assembly and fan cooling block together. Remove the fan and either clean or replace it. You can then reassemble your computer by repeating these steps, but in reverse order.
