how do u get it to work if u just got the ipod touch?

It sounds like the iPod is probably in recovery mode and needs to be restored through iTunes. Connect your iPod to your computer using the cable that came with it. Give your computer a few moments to recognize the iPod. If iTunes does not prompt you to restore the iPod automatically, click on the restore button on the 'summary' tab of your iPod in iTunes. Hopefully restoring your iPod's firmware will solve the issue.
