Hi,

As you know liquids and electronics and electricity are not a good mix.

The liquid causes corrosion and provides circuit paths for the electricity which were not in the laptop's operating design and could damage the components. The corrosion process starts immediately and continues until it has been cleaned properly

First do not turn on your laptop and then you need to remove the battery as soon as possible from the laptop to minimize further damage.''

Then you need to dis-assemble the rest of the laptop and clean all the affected parts using Isopropyl Alcohol 90%+ to remove all traces of corrosion and water. Do not use "rubbing alcohol" as in some cases this is only 70% and is not as effective. If you do check the label to verify the amount

Here is a link that in general, describes the process.

Electronics Water Damage

As always with electronics, especially surface mounted PCBs be gentle when handling and especially when brushing away the corrosion. You do not want to remove any components from the board.

Hopefully after you have done all this the laptop might possibly work correctly again.

Here is a link to the ifixit guide(s) on how to repair your laptop. It is useful because it shows how to open your laptop so that you can access the components inside to clean them properly.

Lenovo ThinkPad X230

You may find that it is easier to simply replace the keyboard as you can cause more problems than you fix in trying to clean/repair it.

Here is a link to the service parts page for Lenovo. Scroll down to keyboards and find the part number for your particular keyboard (they are country orientated, also the number should be on your keyboard) and using just that number search online for suppliers.

If this process seems too daunting, take your laptop to a reputable, professional laptop / computer repair service and ask for a quote for a repair.

If you decide to do this, do it sooner than later.

Hi @susully ,

Here is a link to the service manual for a Thinkpad X201i. Scroll to p.94 to see the pre-requisites and procedure to to remove the keyboard.

Once you are satisfied that the motherboard and all the other components have been properly cleaned, it may be easier to replace the keyboard than try to clean/fix it as you can cause more problems than you fix in trying to repair it.

Scroll to p.286 to see the part number for the various keyboards. They are country specific. The part number for yours should be printed on your keyboard. As an example here is the part number for a US model keyboard 42T3737. If you search online using "just this number" nothing else in the search box, you will get results for suppliers of the part. Here is just one to give you an idea of the cost. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Original-New-Len...

Good luck in your repair.
