sound comes on, picture does not

I have a Vizio 55" smart tv. It will turn on, the sound comes on, but the picture does not. I do not see the menu when I press that button on the remote. I do not see a dim picture or any sort of picture when I shine a flashlight on it in a dark room. If I unplug it over night, the picture usually returns, but I would prefer to fix it. What is wrong with it?

This issue sounds like a bad TCON board. They can cause all sort of display issue including discoloration and even no picture. They are generally very inexpensive and easy to replace. If you upload the model #, I would love to help you find the proper part.

Thanks for your response. Looks like its actually a 50", but the model # is E500i-B1.
