White blotch across the top 1/3rd of the screen

I have just received an ASUS Zenbook x31E with a wonky display. The top 1/3 of the screen is white and lined. if I open the laptop up fully, the whole display bleeds to white, and if i change the resolution, the display bleeds to white and then changes, still only showing 2/3rds of the screen. Taking a screengrab results in an image the full expected size - see this example: Image

I theorize that the issue is a wonky connection. So I guess that replacing the screen should do the trick. Any confirmation or rejection of this theory would be much appreciated.
