I have a 1285 mccullough steamer. It doesn't heat & the on off switch doesn't light up

von

unit is complete and has been working. however, now the on/off switch will not stay lit in the on position and if i hold it just right i can get the light on but i don’t think i’m getting power to the unit. is the switch an easy item to replace?

von

I tried cleaning as instructed. The unit still fails to operate. Further help is needed. I should also mention that I’ve only used it maybe 10 times, always with distilled water.

Phil Graves , According to your manual this may be caused by mineral build up. A common problem with steam appliances is mineral build-up caused by high mineral content in many municipal water supplies. The best way to avoid this is to use de-mineralized or distilled water in unit. If you are unable to use de-mineralized or distilled water, it is recommended you use a mixture of 8 oz. (237 ml.) vinegar and 8 oz. (237 ml) water to help remove deposits poured into the empty reservoir, let sit an hour. May have to repeat process if build up bad. Use the link below/manual for further instruction. Good luck. I hope this helped you out, if so let me know by pressing the helpful button.

We've only ever used Distilled, So although this may be the problem, I'm thinking for this specific instance this may not be it. We'll try the vinegar though, can't hurt

Phil Graves, Also check hoses/fittings/head for possibly being clogged, pinched, collapsed and possibly blow some low pressure air through hose. Thanks for replying back, Good luck.

Oreck Steam 100: It worked! And fast. I was impatient and only waited 1/2 hr; I had already cleaned the steam regulator as well as the nozzle alot with CLR. Oreck instructions, below.

Thank you, and I will NEVER LEAVE WATER IN IT AGAIN,

Cleaning the Steam Generator

IMPORTANT! Only follow these instructions when the steam clean-

er is completely cooled down. Also remove plug from outlet.

1. Twist steam nozzle CClockwise releasing it from its locked position. Pull

upwards; this will remove it completely from the steam chamber. It will be tight.

2. Insert nozzle brush in chamber.

3. Rotate brush while pulling in and out of chamber.

4. Insert steam nozzle back in chamber and turn Clockwise

to lock back in position.

Oreck recommends cleaning the chamber at least after every

12 - 15 uses to ensure performance.

Unblocking the Steam Outlet

If steam appears reduced, steam nozzle may be blocked. Unplug

unit from the electrical. Let cool.

1. Insert nozzle pin into center to clear any blockage.

so mine turns on/heats up…. But no steam comes out. Nothing comes out of the hose…….,

So you’re saying I should empty the water that’s in it out.. (& yes it’s off. Been off for hours) & then fill it with new water but this time with 8oz distilled water & 8oz vinegar? That’s not a lot but ok.,

THEN.., what do I do? Do I turn it back on to let it steam up & work it’s cleaning magic or.. do I just let the vinegar & distilled water sit in there without doing anything & after an hour go to start it up & … hopefully discover its as good as new?
