New iPhone 3G digitizer, sometimes unresponsive

Hi there,

recently I have had a small digitizer problem (totally unresponsive bottom, small enough to allow unlocking) which I attempted to solve by bying and installing a new one.

Everything seemed fine at first, but after a couple of hours I noticed that sometimes the whole screen stops responding. Judging by the price, it is not an original Apple digitizer, therefore, I think it may be some software issue since simple pushing the sleep button and then unlocking fixes the screen... untill it freezes again.

The problem seems to occur while using an app, rarely while in springboard or while texting.

I have already tried putting the phone apart again and checking the screen connector. It fits the socket just fine, better than the old one actually.

Any thoughts are welcomed, thank you in advance.

Sounds software related. Did you try to reset your phone as well as doing a possible restore through iTunes if you have your iPhone backed up.

If iPhone 3G won’t turn on, or if the display freezes or doesn’t respond

  • Press and hold the Home button below the screen for at least six seconds, until the application you were using quits.
  • If that doesn’t work, turn iPhone 3G off and turn it on again. Press and hold the Sleep/ Wake button on top of iPhone for a few seconds until a red slider appears, and then drag the slider. Then press and hold the Sleep/Wake button until the Apple logo appears.
  • If that doesn’t work, reset iPhone 3G. Press and hold both the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.

Apple iPhone DFU mode ( Deep Firmware Upgrade)

1. Turn off iPhone.

2. Connect to mac/pc with sync cable / iTunes.

3. Press and hold HOME and POWER buttons for 10sec.

4. Release only POWER button, but continue pressing HOME button for 10 sec.

Now iTunes should detect iPhone in recovery mode.

That is where I would start, good luck and let us know. :)

Thank you very much for the reply

I am still making sure, but it seems that I fixed the problem. If I am right about this, decomposing the front panel and then carefully cleaning the plug and the socket with compressed gas did the job. Everythig SEEMS to be just fine at the moment. If the issue will appear again I will most surely follow your advice.

Thank you!
