I might add hagen projector lamps are quite hot so if you find a suitable brighter bulb you risk overheating the projector as it was not designed for the added heat.

Yes for a halogen bulb you do not want to go beyond what it was originally designed for. But now that incandescent and halogen are practically illegal LED is totally a different beast. Another similar question which had a comment that said they did do an LED store-bought swap and it worked so not a bad option to try.

@user5136121 T you are safe. The statement is accurate regarding the manufacture and sale of these bulbs, but it does not apply to owning or using them. The Department of Energy (DOE) implemented a rule in August 2023 requiring all general service lamps to emit a minimum of 45 lumens per watt. Because traditional incandescent and halogen bulbs physically cannot meet this standard—typically producing only 15 to 20 lumens per watt—they can no longer be legally manufactured, imported, or sold by retailers. The ban applies specifically to general illumination. Manufacturers are still legally permitted to produce and sell incandescent and halogen bulbs for specialized use cases where their specific heat output or physical properties are necessary.
