logic board replacement/upgrade on MacBook Air

Hi,

My MacBook Air 13" 1.4 GHz i5 (early 2014) logic board is broken (irreparable)

My question is can I upgrade the motherboard to a better specification motherboard and if so what is the best motherboard /processor I can replace it with?

Also where is best place to purchase?

thx for help

For starters if your logic board is beyond repair you could get a 1.7 GHz with 8 GB of RAM (Early 2014) which will work without any problems.

It does appear the 2.2 GHz (Early 2015) logic board is the same layout. But it does have a few differences the SSD support is PCIe 2.0 x4 Vs PCIe 2.0 x2 in your system. While your old SSD will work it won't have the same performance as what it could.

Consider the costs! The older board will be cheaper and if you have a 4 GB board the addition of 4 more GB of RAM (8 GB total) will make a big difference with the better & faster CPU (i7 1.7 GHz over your i5 1.4 GHz).

As I have not tried swapping out this logic board with the newer 2015 model I can't tell you if you don't hit any problems. So keep that in mind!

Here's the specs for your system and the other two:

Here's one possible source - The BookYard:

They also offer used boards which are cheaper.
