White Vertical Lines on the screen

My iPad was given to me last summer of 2014. Today, its been 3 years and still alive. No dents, or even a crack. But then last month when I woke up, the screen of my iPad just had some vertical white lines all over the screen! I don't know what to do. It just doesn't go away. When I use it in full brightness then make the iPad so hot, I lock it and open it up and the white lines are gone but when the iPad cools down and I would put down the brightness, the white lines would flash back again. What do I do now? Is it an LCD issue? I just recently bought a replacement LCD from iFixit and its on its way. I wish that would solve the problem.

Did I make the right choice? Any suggestions? A reply would definitely help me a lot.

Thanks

I was wondering what the problem ended up being? I have the same issue but the problem comes and goes... my iPad has never been repaired and has no dents or cracks. One day the lines appeared and the entire screen seems whitewashed.

von

i had this happen to me this weekend. all i had were lines running across the screen. I then read somewhere that one could press the ipad from the back 2 inches under the camera and it will solve the problem. i tried this and it actually worked.

von

Pressing the back 2 inches under the camera worked on mine - I have never had an issue with mine before, and it's 5 or 6 years old!

von

Honestly I had this problem for a long time then one day I just woke up and the lines where gone but great advice

von

I had a same symptom about 3 weeks ago and was fixed by pressing the back. And the symptom came back 3 days ago again and I tried to fix it with same solution but got worse, more lines. This morning, however, I got the crispy normal screen of my iPad mini back. In conclusion, do not be panic for the problem, use your iPad as usual, then it will turn to normal soon.

The LCD is where I would start. If you haven't opened up one of these mini's before then be sure to look through the guides on here for tips and locations of the sensitive components directly under the screen edge. Once you have it open and are ready to unplug the connectors, make sure you unplug the battery first. This will eliminate the possibility of blowing the backlight on the iPad. These mini's are infamous for backlight issues.

Is the LCD really damaged in your own observation? Should this be for replacement?

von

In my experience, this is NORMALLY a damaged LCD. That being said, be sure to test the new one before you completely install it. If its displaying the same lines on the new one, then its obviously something on the logic board like a failing backlight or imaging component. Was there ever any repairs performed on it, or was it ever dropped to your knowledge?

von

My iPad never had any repairs so it wasnt opened up nor it was dropped. How do I know if the logic board is actually the problem? I cant open ipads since I dont know ang I dont even have the tools. Maybe its just the lcd malfunctioning.

von

I dont think the backlight is the problem. My mini isnt dark or has some dark areas on the screen. My screen also does burn in whenever I watch a steady image. So I think the lcd really is the problem right?

von

I have an IPad mini that is doing exactly this. Have tried everything to get lines to go away forever but no luck. Found less annoying fix is, after turning off and on to get the lines to go away and not come back after changing sleep option to “Never”. Most of the time the lines do not come back all day but if you turn the IPad off then back on back they come until you turn the IPad off and on several times until they disappear. This is very annoying and all possible solutions have not worked for me. The way this thing is acting, feels like a bad LCD or a faulty connection. I have discovered I can use all day without a problem as long as I don’t turn it off.

As information, I went to the local Apple store some time back and their only solutions were get a rebuilt IPad Min for $180+ or purchase a new one. In short, no in house repair option. This made me mad and their method of operation I found unsatisfactory compared to other options.

Any suggestions would be welcome.

I have the same vertical lines issue. The way I found is this: make sure brightness is not low (let's say around 75% of the maximum). When stripes appear keep using or keep active your iPad screen for at least 5 minutes. Not less! Then turn off and on the iPad once quite quickly. Lines will disappear and will stay away until your iPad is on. If they are back again that means or your brightness is too low or you didn’t wait 5 minutes. I don’t know why it happens but it sounds like a kind of “screen warm up”. Remember that everytime you switch off the screen then stripes will show up again And you have to repeat steps above

I restarted the iPad mini and the vertical line disappeared.

Voodoo also works just as well, probably

This ipad from Amazon is barely 8 months. LCD gives off white vertical streaks, i know they offer 1 yr warranty as I read from their website,

von

OMG that actually worked! I was very sceptical. Thank you my younger son now has a free ipad mini2!

Thanks heaps!

Hi guys! OP here. To those who were wondering what happened to my iPad mini, I actully got it repaired and replaced the lcd. After all that, it was back to normal but I then proceed to sell it and bought the new 6th gen iPad.

Thanks for letting us know what fixed it. Now we know the LCD is the problem. My grandma's iPad mini is doing the same thing.

von

Did they actually replace the LCD or give you a replacement unit? This is important for me because I want to repair it myself. When I went to get a battery replaced, they simply gave me a new / refurbed unit (which had a separate defect)

I notice that with my iPad it is an intermittent fault. It goes away when I put it to sleep with the button but not if I close its magnetic case.

Wouldn’t an LCD fault be there all the time?

Would the magnetic flap on the case do anything?

I have seen this problem all over the web without a verified answer, which usually means we don’t know.

Interesting.

I found about the same thing. Once the lines disappear by turning it off and on again, sometimes several times until lines disappear, plug in the power supply and leave it on. If ines come back, back off and on again. Have worked all day with no lines.

Mine tends to get overall white washed out with lines when it is in a cool (<65°F) temp. I watch often in my garage at night at it happens a lot. On and off will fix temporarily.

Put a space heater a few feet behind it or go back in the house (> 72°F) and it works all night.

After months & months of the line/flickering screen problems, to the point of going blind, I moved the brightness cursor full right, turned automatic brightness off, set the auto lock to ‘never’ & bless my soul, lines are gone! As bob is my witness. I left those settings in place for 24hrs & I’m using it as normal. This is an iPad mini 2. I can’t remeber how old it is but it’s been well used.

This might sound stupid but when I had this issue, I would slap the back of my iPad a few times and turn it back on and it would work.

I have no idea why this is happening but one of my friend face the similar issue. But there is not while line. Just whitewashes the screen. She replaced the LCD and the LCD connector to fix it.

No kidding, you are correct, this really works, I have been doing this for the past 2 years with the only difference being that I slam shut the auto off cover and it never fails to work normally again.
