PS3 Phat 60gb unable to complete update/install firmware.

After bringing this PS3 back to life and fixing the fan, I was able to boot up the console where I began to update it. It was previously on 4.60 and was updating it to the latest firmware version; 4.82. It got to 99% and failed and kept retrying after failing at around 70%.

I've nearly searched everything and and anything and no luck in getting past this update stage. To the best of my knowledge, everything in the system is working and connected, including the bluray drive, spinning and all. Hard drive is also okay as I test this with another PS3, update process and everything.

Can an interrupted update affect the motherboard in any way? There must be something I'm missing.

One thing to note is when I press the eject button, I get a triple beep but the disk still ejects as normal. If I insert it back in, it takes it in as normal, spins, with the blue light visible. Could the triple beep be a symptom or is it the case that it's being ejected in safe mode?
