TV randomly turns on and off repeatedly

I have had my Vizio for a little over a year, a few months ago it started to lag when I changed the volume or channel with my cable remote. We have lost the remote to the tv so it can only be controlled by the cable remote, smartest app via the phone and another vizier remote we have for a TV in the kids room (just realized about a year ago the kids tv would turn off by itself but immediately turned back on).

After this issue the TV started to turn on and off by itself, not just a few times but it continuously does this ALL day, about once a day the TV will eventually turn on and stay on but I don’t hold my breath waiting for this to happen. When the TV turns on the Vizio symbol appears, disappears after about 5 seconds, the screen gots dark and then turns off, this is the ongoing cycle.

Can someone please help, it is out of warranty, we have tried changing all outlets, cords and unplugging and plugging it back in, Tried the method form when the TV is in RGB mode but no success.

Also, when the TV is in its cycle of on and off we cannot turn the TV on using any of the current devices.

Please help, football season is here and this is the one in the living room we use all the time.

It will be much easier for us to provide details if we have the exact model as well.

My TV is a Vizo D24f-F1. purchased 3 weeks ago, brand new at Bestbuy. It randomly powers off and then on again. this is so annoying

von

Bring it back and request a replacement. Don't accept a "repair

attempt. With something that new the store should be able to return it to their supplier.

von

I have the Vizio D24f-F1 tv and my tv has been doing the same thing. So i brought it back and exchanged it. The new tv does the same thing. It started after the tv updated the about a week ago. I think the update might have broke it. I have tried settings reducing power consumption with no affect. Problem still exists. Any help would be awesome...

Same problem here and we tried all the fixes and nothing. While trying all this someone moved the fire stick remote and the TV instantly reacted(turned off and on). We thought this to be strange. So we covered up the ir on the fire stick remote and low and behold the TV stayed on. We unblocked the ir signal and the TV started turning off and on again. Removed the batteries from the fire stick remote and the TV stayed on. After we were sure this was the cause we put the batteries back in and everything worked fine. What I gather is the fire stick remote was cycling on and off thereby turning the TV on and off. After removing the batteries it somehow stopped the cycling and reset the remote TV is working fine now. If this is happening to you maybe you want to remove other remotes from the area and see if they may be the problem.

Thank you! This turned out to be our problem, too. We would have never figured this out.

von

Same here! Thank God I was calling electricians & everything!! Merry Christmas & thanks Dan!

von

Great news that it worked for you. It was only by a fluke that we figured that out. If someone wouldn't have moved the remote at that particular time, we probably would be watching a new TV with $500 less in our pocket.

von

This was my problem as well, thanks for the fix even if it was a fluke.

von

We had the same problem. I am so glad I read your fix it message! Thanks so much! Happy New Year!

@achenevert

you do want to go ahead and check the power board. This could be a bad capacitor issue as well as a backlight issue. Measure the voltages going to your backlight etc. Also, since you are having a hard time with the remote control etc. consider replacing the remote with one that works for your TV. When your TV turns itself off, shine a flashlight at an angle against your screen. see if you can make out shapes and silhouttes etc. Let us know what you find.

This advice saved me. In my case HDMI 2 was fried, So I moved my Firestick to HDMI 1. Note that I also had to remove the batteries from my firestick remote before it stopped power cycling. Thanks everyone for reporting this issue and the fix.

The HDMI port has most likely failed. I had this same issue on my Vizio 40” just this morning. I did all the unplugging of cords, holding buttons, replacement of remote batteries, resetting to factory. After all that I just put my stuff on the last HDMI port and bingo we have a functional TV. Try this. Good luck all.

von

I got mine to work. It is a Fried HDMI port. Switch all your stuff to another HDMI port. My tv had only 2 and I had my fire cube on one and ATT uverse on the other. Took them all and put on the one port with a switch box. And that was almost a year ago. Meant to update this but forgot. The HDMI port is restarting the tv so try.

I had this problem too. It was the remote from the Firestick I had plugged into the tv that causing it.

I took the batteries out of the remote, and that fixed it. I may have to do it now and again in the future but I was SO happy that this was the solution and not replacing the tv.

Exact same problem — Vizio D40f E1

Off and on constantly, rebooted, unplugged everything, etc etc.

It was Amazon Fire Stick remote. Took out batteries, fixed instantly. Replaced AAA batteries in Fire remote and so far problem hasn’t returned. Still, not completed sure if internal issue, sticky button, or low battery issue.

I have a Vizio 70” e series and it started this cycling off and on. I tried everything I found on the web without any results. I finally just did a factory reset of the T.V. and the problem has not returned. Hope this will help anyone out there that has the same problem.

Had the same issue with the TV in our living room. Thought the TV was fried so moved the fire stick to the bedroom and began having the same problem with that TV - different brands of TVs. So followed your advice. Unplugged TVs, unplugged all HDMIs, took batteries out of all remotes. Then held down power putt on on TVs to reset. Then plugged TVs back in and plugged in Directv boxes back in and put batteries back in those remotes. Both TVs are fine hallelujah! Did not plug back in the Firestick to either TV and did not put back in its batteries. Would much rather replace our firestick than 2 TVs.

Do you live in an apartment? Some remotes have settings that make it so you can control the tv from across the house. So you could have a neighbor using the same remote frequency and it can turn your tv on and off. I have a fan that changes speeds when I change the volume on my

Somebody please help me!! I have tried everything from changing the batteries in my Fire stick remote two doing a reset and meaning I unplug the TV held the power button down for 10 seconds plug it back in and turn it on and apparently it works for everybody else but me. I'm pretty sure it has something to do with the fire stick I'm just not sure what it just continues to come on and off repeatedly. But what is weird is when I use the remote to hit power it'll only go on and off twice and then if I unplug it and plug it back in and hit power on the TV itself it continuously goes on and off and will not stop until I unplug it again somebody please help me i really dont wanna buy a new tv!!!!
