In need of urgent help

Okay, so i know that using an iphone 5s in 2018 is just asking for trouble, but im in a bind and i really need some help. My home button stopped working almost 3 years ago, and ive been using assistive touch ever since. Last month, my phone started delteing my pictures and videos and it would force close the photo app when it was restoring the contents. When i tried updating to the new ios, it said i didnt have enough space. So i deleted 99% of my apps and finally had enough room for the update. Except it didnt update and wouldnt explain why. I then proceed to go to the app store to try to re download the apps i deleted. This is where it goes from bad to just FUBAR. It says that i need to update an app that i had already deleted. I tried deleting the app from the storage settings, but it would reappear the moment i came back on to the storage screen. At this point, when i truly believe it cant get any worse, my phone decides to restart by itself, with me not touching anything. So i am now greeted with the HELLO message in multiple languages. I have some small hope that this might fix my phone. Except when i go to the option of using cellular data to set it up, it doensnt work. No biggie, ill just use the wifi… except of course it tells me that the wifi password is incorrect. So i reset my wifi and change the password to 12345, no way my phone can tell me something that simple is wrong, except it does exactly that. So cellular and wifi are of no help. My last option is to connect the phone to itunes. My last iota of hope is riding on itunes helping me. Except when i connect it to itunes, itunes then proceeds to tell me that it cant read my phone because the value is missing. FML I go online and everyone’s solutions revolve around holding the home and power button to reset the phone. Something which i havent had for 3 years. So i am at my wits end and i am in need of a miracle solution because anything i typ into google just gives me solutions that have been tried and do not work on my phone. Please, i beg of you, anyone who is reading this and that can help me, please respond. If you know someone who knows iphones inside and out, please direct them to this question. I have years of pictures of my two kids that are not backed up by the cloud. I know getting anew phone would be so much easier than dealing with this colossal failure of a phone, but i feel like i can only do so after i have used every option that i possibly can. This is my absolute last option, nothing i have found online or tried myself has worked. Please help me users of ifixit, i know im just a stranger online but im in desperate need of help.

I'm using an iPhone 5 in 2018 so as far as I'm concerned you'r not asking for trouble.

There are several apps out there which allow you to put your phone into recovery mode without using the home button. My tool of choice is ReiBoot but there are others.

Alternately, replacing the home button is actually pretty simple and inexpensive. iFixIt sells the part here (without tools) for about $7. You can also find it on ebay for about the same price but with the required tools. (Cheap tools, sure, but enough to get the job done.) Someone who has never done it before and takes their time with it should expect to take about 30-60 minutes to complete the operation. Also, if your battery is more than 18 months old you may want to consider replacing it at the same time since you'll already have the phone open and a replacement battery is pretty cheap.
