Removing the agitator assembly

I have a kenwood compact washer model 110 and I’m trying to remove the agitator assembly so that I can check the agitator dogs. I removed the fabric softener cup, the lint basket and the agitator screw on the side of the agitator assembly. Then I proceeded to lift the assembly, but it won’t lift out. I don”t see a bolt in the center top of the agitator. HELP!

Every washing machine with a DIY agitator removal video has a 7/16" nut. But not this one. When I figure it out, I hope to post a solution. Nothing posted here is useful.

UPDATE: The "nut" is a plastic piece directly visible from above: "Washer Agitator Spring Retainer WPL-WP3946995"; the axle it's threaded over is also visible from above.

A 1/2" square drive ratchet extension removes it easily. Wow. I'm living in an alternate dimension. This repair seems too simple.

I literally use a wrench with long socket ! To reach it once i get the exact one I’ll comment again with the right size

If your Kenmore 110 Series Washing Machine refuses to spin or agitate during the wash cycle, see the Kenmore 110 Series Washing Machine Doesn’t Spin or Agitate problem page for possible causes and solutions.

See if this video will work for you. Giving us your specific model number may help.

Step 1

Turn off your washer and unplug it from the wall. Lift up the hood to reveal the washer tub and agitator.

Step 2

Remove the agitator cap. Depending on your Kenmore model, this can be done in one of two ways. First, try to unscrew the cap counter-clockwise. If this doesn't work, look for the line that separates the bottom of the cap from the top of the agitator. Gently press a screwdriver into this joint and pry off the agitator cap.

Step 3

Remove the agitator bolt. As in Step 2, how you do this depends on your Kenmore model. Some Kenmore washers have a hex bolt that holds down the agitator. Remove this with a socket wrench. Other models use a plastic screw with a square insert in the center. Remove these type of screws by inserting the end of a large, flat bladed screwdriver into the hole and turning counter-clockwise. You can also use the square end of a socket wrench.

Step 4

Put on the safety gloves. Take your hands and place them beneath the agitator, one on each side. Keep your head away from above the laundry tub and turned to the side. Then tug on the agitator. Keep your head turned so the agitator doesn't hit you in the face if it suddenly pops off. Because of the action of water, temperature and detergent, sometimes these agitators can get stuck and be quite stubborn to remove. There are a couple of tricks you can try if this is the case. First, take a small block of wood and hold it over the agitator hub. Tap this a few times with a hammer. This should loosen the hub. Another trick you can try is to plug the washer back in and run a cycle on the hottest temperature. Allow the washer to fill up halfway, then stop it. Try to remove the agitator. Hot water causes the metal to expand and hopefully, this will wedge your agitator off the hub.

We've removed the bolt waaay down deep in the agitator and it still won't budge. Looks like around plastic disc with 3 slightly raised pieces, but nothing a tool will remove, surrounding where the bolt was.

I have this same issue. None of the videos I can find on YouTube show how to get the agitator off this particular model. There is NO bolt holding the agitator on which can be accessed from the top as the video depicts. There is nothing but a 3 flanged pice of plastic obscuring several bolts that appear impossible to access about 2 feet down inside the center of the agitator. We still need help figuring this out.

If ur had like

Mines had I took the bolt out and there were these tiny clamps holding it together ! So with a flat head I would push them lil clamps down or just pull really hard that’s what I did I think I might of broke the clamps but it’s still going back together and into place !

I had to jiggle and pull up on the agitator, but like another person described, it does move a millimeter or so each time. Took 5- 10 min of jigging and pulling...probably would have gone faster if I didn't stop to scratch my head and recheck the videos a couple of times!

Pull up hard then push up hard pull up hard push back down. Over and over spray wd-40 around where you took the bolt out every so often. It took me 20 minutes (with a couple of breaks) up and down it gives a millimeter each time.

the way I got mine off was a little crazy, I took a 1" ratcheting strap and slid it under the base (a couple flat head screwdrivers to pry it up helped), then across the top of the machine I took a 2x4 and wrapped the ratchet strap around it, I used the ratchet strap to apply pressure and eventually it came loose and eventually came off.
