keyboard not working after screen change

I replaced the screen on my BB Passport with a square cornered screen . had to modify the frame. now the keyboard doesnt work. it did prior. everything went together fine except for a 1cm x 2 cm copper tape . does this ground the keyboard. where does it go? is the old keyboard and new screen compatible?
